Welcome baby Mackenzie
Spring Break Edition: Baby Mackenzie Thuy Carter says hello!
I am not going to follow my normal format this month as our family welcomed baby Mackenzie into the world on March 6th. In my little world this news trumps anything to do with sleep, grub, exercise, and mental health:)
The labour was incredible. Both baby and mom are healthy. Mackenzie was 6 pounds 12 ounces and enters the world with an older brother (who so far adores her), 8 loving cousins, 8 aunts and uncles, and four grandparents.
She is not yet two weeks but she already holds a firm place in our family. We wondered how long this would take, it was quick. Newborns have a way of making their presence known, especially for mom, who is caring and feeding her day and night. Although Danny was incredibly loving towards mommy’s belly we were a little nervous about how he would react. I am sure the sibling relationship will wax and wane but I will never forget Danny’s exuberance and pure joy when he met his sister for the first time. I have honestly never seen him run up our stairs so quickly!
Children challenge us and require sacrifice but there really isn’t anything quite like them. Hopefully many of you will meet Mackenzie in the months and years to come.

Below are four old blogs I wrote during Danny's first year. I also looked back on my journal entries from this same period. These blogs and the journal entries were telling - it was a transition period and I had a lot of growing up to do. I may not need to journal about the ins and outs of diaper changes but it was a nice reminder of how powerful journalling can be. It can be cathartic in the moment and incredibly revealing to look back upon. It's a great way to capture the emotions and small details of distant memories.
